How much fishkeeping experience do our admins and mods have?

Thought this would be an interesting question and one the members might like to know the answer to

Lets face it anyone can read a book and regurgitate the information and sound like they know what they are talking about, but just how much hands wet with fishy water do we all have on here? and if you are a member and you want to tell us your magic number then do feel free to join in too

I will start the sum by saying i have kept fish on and off for 23 years - had a few wee breaks here and there as most of us do! My experience is with community fish mainly - wouldn't say i'm an expert in any one species or anything like that, have a good overall knowledge of quite a few!

Ummm...around 30 years give or take a year or 2, community fish mostly..think I've forgotten more than I ever knew at times!

Yeah i know that feeling ok ;D I'm not an encyclopaedia unlike my other half - its all the latin names of cichlids that gets me confuddled its not alzheimers honest

It's not only you that gets confuddled by Latin names

i worked in tropical fish shop and wholesalers in belfast 25years ago for a few yearsand had up to 11 fish tanks during that time plus a tropical pond and a couple of outdoor ponds.was out of fish mostly until 5 years agowhen i had to sort how to keep some of the larger south american cats etc (after remembering seeing an 18" marble sailfin cat laiarius pictus that someone brought into the shop 20 odd years ago).still haven,t been able to pick up one of these.main interest is larger catfish ,american cichlids and some of the bigger characins barbs oddballs.also designed and built several large tanks and filter systems .next tank project is a 12 foot river tank,with several small pools running into one deep pool with water being pumped around the back of the tank.
